why did we start nightfall sleep radio? because
Insomnia is the worst.
About five years ago, my partner sustained a head injury and developed TBI. This came with tinnitus, migraines, and insomnia. That started our journey into brain science and looking for ways to get relief and better sleep.
What’s my background? I’m a librarian and researcher, and I knew sleep was foundational to good heath. I saw firsthand how our quality of life crashed when we didn’t get decent sleep.
Then about a year ago, I started the grand journey of perimenopause. I immediately got one of the most common perimenopausal symptoms: insomnia. I also had extreme levels of anxiety, and I needed techniques to lower cortisol and relax at the end of the day.
I’ve learned insomnia is a journey. I went down the road of CBT-I, ASMR, delta wave therapy, and any other relief I could find. CBT-I worked well for me, as did VNS, meditation and being more mindful of my bedtime and wakeup routines. I use the Sensate mentioned in that VNS article almost every day, and several of my female friends have also used it to help with menopause symptoms.
Why does sleep matter?
The sleep science is clear. Without a good night’s sleep, we all get miserable, irritable, and have trouble functioning well. (I call it being an aggravated zombie.)
We spend a full third of our life sleeping, and our brain needs that downtime to clear the body’s junk. Sleep is when we process memories, regulate our hormonal systems, and rebuild our muscles and cellular processes. It’s vital to good health.
I put my research skills to work and started looking into sleep science and effective nighttime routines. Nightfall Sleep Radio was born. My husband is an audiophile, so he helps with the binaural beats and frequency recordings. We both love vintage radio and ASMR, so that’s part of the collection.
We created Nightfall Sleep Radio to share sleep sounds, softly spoken bedtime stories, ASMR, and sleep science articles to help you get better rest. Sleep is genuinely the best gift you can give yourself.
Through our YouTube sleep channel, weekly podcast (Sleep Signals), and a guided sleep journal, we aim to help you get the deep sleep you deserve.
Sleep well, friend. ????
